Here's what's been happening this week in the world of horse racing.
Monomoy Girl's Brother to Start Friday at Oaklawn Park
Champion MONOMY GIRL'S brother, COWBOY DIPLOMACY, will make his debut at Oaklawn Park Friday. The colt has been working at Oaklawn for the past two months, recording eight workouts under trainer Brad Cox. COWBOY DIPLOMACY is a chestnut like his sister and both are by TAPIZAR and out of DRUMETTE, a HENRY HUGHES mare. While built a little differently, both look nearly exactly alike. Look for him in the 7th race at 6 furlongs with an approximate post time of 4:14pm CT.
Who's Headed to Dubai?
With the Pegasus behind us, several top horses are now gearing up for potential starts in the Dubai World Cup.
After a hard fought San Pasqual last weekend, BATTLE OF MIDWAY is looking at starts in the Santa Anita Handicap March 9th before shipping to Dubai for the Godolphin Mile on March 30th.
AUDIBLE and YOSHIDA are also being considered for the Dubai World Cup. AUDIBLE finished fifth in a very wet Pegasus and Yoshida finished sixth in the Pegasus World Cup Turf.
3 Months Until the Kentucky Derby!
The Road to the Derby is getting interesting with the latest points being tallied. Here's the current line up of the Top 20 Derby bound horses.
The next Road to the Derby Prep Races for this month include:
Keeneland's Win Place Show Lotto Game
Keeneland and sports lottery game provider EquiLottery Games have come to an agreement to test a new revenue stream in a new game called Kentucky's Win Place Show. It wil be the first daily U.S. lottery game based on the results of live horse racing.
There will be 45 test locations across the state where players can purchase Win Place Show tickets based on Keeneland races every day of the meet running from April 4th to April 26th. Players will purchase a $2 Quick Pick ticket of three horses at the same place they purchase their regular lottery tickets. Winning tickets match all three horses in a row, all three horses in any order or two horses exactly.
Gulfstream Park Under Quarantine After Horse Tests Positive for Equine Infectious Anemia
Last Thursday, Barn 3 at Gulfstream Park was placed under quarantine after a horse tested positive for equine infectious anemia, a disease that is relatively uncommon today after the development of the Coggins test. EIA cannot be contracted by humans, but is highly contagious amongst horses and infected horses are often put down or forced to live a life solitude. Infected horses must be kept at least 200 yards away from other horses, as the disease is spread by flying insects. There is no cure or vaccine for the disease.
Horses in Barn 3 will have to pass additional tests before they are able to run and will train separately from all other horses. Barn 3 houses roughly 50 horses.
Have a great week!
